The Karachi Port handled 83,389 tonnes of cargo comprising 48,392 tonnes of import cargo and 34,997 tonnes of export cargo including 4,284 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 48,392 tonnes comprised of 29,695 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,967 tonnes of general cargo; 7,851 tonnes of bulk cargo: 2,578 tonnes of DAP; 5,273 tonnes of soyabean meal and 6,879 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 34,997 tonnes comprised of 28,865 tonnes of containerised cargo; 532 tonnes of cement and 5,600 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,284 containers comprising of 2,150 containers import and 2,134 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday. The break-up of imported containers shows 878 of 20's and 564 of 40's loaded while 20 of 20's and 62 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 688 of 20's and 447 of 40's loaded containers while 126 of 20's and 213 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were eight ships namely SSL Mumbai, Commodore, RHL Aqua, Duck Hunter, GT Star, MT Karachi, Soho Trader and Chief Ahmad carrying containers, oil tankers, soda ash and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were eight vessels viz. Kota Karim, Posen, Corvette, Sharif Pioneer, Bofors, Osam Jumbo-5, KSL Anyang and Hong Tiger carrying containers, tugs and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were two ships namely Kota Karim and Posen carrying containers respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while two ships namely BW Cougar and KSL Anyang carrying oil tanker and general cargo respectively are expected to sail on Wednesday. There were three vessels viz. Wieland, ER Helgoland and Teatralny Bridge carrying containers and mogas respectively due to arrive on Tuesday, while five vessels viz. PAC Aries, Ever Radiant, Desh Prem, Margarita and Lunita carrying containers, oil tanker, mogas and coal respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.
