Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday reserved the verdict for holding party based local government elections in the federal capital. The case was taken up by a division bench comprising Justice Noor ul Haq N Qureshi and Justice Amir Farooq. Advocate Shoaib Shaheen, counsel of PTI, contended before the court that elections must be party based and not individual based which, he argued, was against basic human rights.
The local bodies' election is scheduled to be held on July 25. As per Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government Act, the elections will be non-party based as there is a ban on the candidates from using the symbol of any party during the election campaign.
