As per directives of Sindh Chief Minister, a Karachi Division Traffic Management Board has been constituted, with Commissioner of Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui as its Chairman to prevent traffic gridlock in the metropolis. The board is authorised to ensure removal of all encroachments and hindrances affecting vehicular traffic flow and also to get concerned departments undertake proper and regular repair of all thoroughfares besides curtailment of mismanaged charged parking zones, said commissioner office authorities on Friday.
The board would particularly ensure quashment of all unauthorized parking lots (charged or otherwise) in Karachi and also removal of all encroachments for good, during the current month of Ramzan as well as otherwise. Members of the board, assigned with the responsibility to streamline on scientific lines the vehicular traffic flow in the metropolis, include Additional Inspector General of Police - Traffic, Khadim Hussain Bhatti, Additional Commissioner (One) of Karachi, Javaid Sibghatullah Mahar, Director, Local Government, Rubina Asif, Representative of Com-Kar (PN), Captain Muhammad Rizwan, Director Transport and Communication Department, Haider Ali and Director for Charged Parking, Jameel Ahmed. Meanwhile, Commissioner of Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad while chairing the meeting of the board in his office Friday said traffic jam and gridlock has not only emerged a cause of serious inconvenience to the masses but also a challenge for the administration.
