Thousands of Muslims on Wednesday sat for Aitkaf in mosques before evening prayers in a bid to carry out rituals in seclusion. The faithful observing Aitkaf will continue worship till the sighting of the Shawwal moon and pray and seek Allah's blessings and mercy. The observers spend most of their time in reciting the Quran.
All the major mosques of Lahore including the Badshahi, Data Darbar and Jamia Masjid Al-Qudsia, Jamia Ashrafia, Jamia Naeemia, Muslim, Minhaj ul Quran mosques, jazzed up with lights, have made special arrangements under tight security. Aitkaf is a spiritual offering in Islam observed in the last 10 days of Ramadan when Muslims detach themselves from other people and indulge solely in act of worshipping, keeping the worldly affairs at an arm's length. One can either offer Aitkaf in mosques or at their own home but they have to stay at a particular place for the observation.
