As many as one thousand laptops were distributed among the students of bachelor & masters' degree programs of the University of Sindh under the Prime Minister's Laptops Scheme at a ceremony in the institute of business administration here on Wednesday. Among others, the representative of higher education commission (HEC) Naeem Ahmed, teachers and a large number of students were also present in the ceremony.
SU IBA director and focal person for the PM's Laptop Scheme at Sindh University Dr Imamuddin Khoso inaugurated the laptop distribution ceremony by giving away 10 laptops to the students. Thus a total number of one thousand laptops were distributed among the deserving students of the varsity. On the occasion, Dr Khoso said: the students should play a positive role for the country's development as they had to shoulder the future responsibilities.
He thanked the federal government for facilitating students of the University of Sindh adding that many students had benefitted from the Fee Reimbursement Programme of premier and also that of laptop scheme. The focal person said it was the wisdom & vision of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif who introduced laptop scheme for the students and scholars of the universities in the country by which the research culture on the campuses will be promoted.
He said over 1, 00000 laptops had been purchased by the HEC under the vision of prime minister and a total number of 7035 laptops had been given away only to Sindh University for its students. "With this decision of the federal government the scholars & students will be able to conduct research through internet and give good results, which will enhance the quality of higher education in the university, I believe," he said.
Dr Khoso said the scheme was in its 3rd phase under which the laptops were being given to students of Bachelor & Masters' degree programme. He expressed hope that the students who received laptops will do their best to promote research on the campus and get benefit from the tens of thousands e-books, research articles and thesis which are available on the internet.
"The scholars can now ensure their access to the electronic books (e-books), other research material, newspapers and magazines which are available online," he said. He said that the SU received 7035 laptops in total out of which 1300 were given to the scholars of M Phil/M.S & PhD while in Phase-III, 5700 laptops along with internet device evo had earlier been given to deserving students. "In the continuation of phase-III, this time a total number of 1427 laptops are being given away; today, we have distributed one thousand laptops, with internet device evo and bag while the remaining 427 laptops would be given away tomorrow (Thursday)", said Dr Imamuddin Khoso.
