At least two people, including a child, were injured on Wednesday in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast on Ring Road Achini Bala area here. Eyewitnesses said the explosion occurred when a security forces' convoy passed near the area. A truck was also damaged as a result of the blast. SP Cantt Umer Farooq talking to reporters that the IED was planted on the roadside. Police cordoned off the area after the blast and initiated a probe into the incident. The casualties were shifted to a nearby hospital.
According to Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) team personnel, six to eight kilograms of explosive materials were used in the making of the IED. Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, lies on the edge of Pakistan's tribal areas which have been labelled by Washington as the main sanctuary for al Qaeda and Taliban militants in the country. The city has seen frequent attacks by militants in the past few years, with targets ranging from civilians to policemen and other law enforcement personnel.
