Chairman of the Senate Defence Committee Mushahid Hussain Sayed Sunday lauded the unmatched services rendered by Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan for the cause of Kashmir and his consistent commitment to project Pakistan's perspective on the issue at home and abroad. Talking to the media, Mushahid said when he recently visited Sardar Qayyum in hospital, he found him firm and steadfast though being physically frail. Sardar Qayyum said to him, "I will not be there but my cause, Kashmir, will live on."
He also referred to Sardar Qayyum's famous appearance in the popular Indian TV show 'Aap ki Adalat', where he strongly presented the Kashmir case with well-reasoned arguments despite hostile questioning.
He said that Sardar Qayyum was a great leader for Kashmiris struggling for freedom and right to self-determination. His passing away was a great loss. However, his legacy would live on as the Kashmiris continued to reject the Indian occupation.
Despite continued grave human rights violations for around seven decades, the flame of freedom, which was lit by Sardar Qayyum as 'Mujahid-e-Awal', could not be extinguished by India using its military might, he added.
Senator Mushahid expressed his condolences to Sardar Atiq and other members of the grieving family over the death of Sardar Qayyum.
