LG candidates in Capital to face enormous challenges

The Islamabad Citizens Committee Sunday said that the candidates for local government (LG) election in the Federal Capital will have to face serious challenges relating to civil problems owing to overall condition in the city.
"The aspiring candidates must prepare themselves to solve the long-standing problems, particularly relating to unauthorised encroachment and popping of illegal kachi abadies," said M Aftab, spokesman of the Citizens Committee, in a statement here. He said that there was growing illegal and unauthorised construction within and alongside of residential sectors, besides commercial use of residential property as schools, offices and beauty parlours, that had made the life of the local people miserable.
M. Aftab said that there was growing illegal parking of vehicles on footpaths in residential as well as commercial areas. "Failure to develop already allotted sectors after more than 20 years of allotment is also a matter of great concern," he added. The spokesman said that there was no maintenance or construction of roads, streets and footpaths. The city also lacked proper street lights.
He said that augmentation of water supply was required on urgent basis. The present requirement of the Capital was 180 million gallons per day, whereas available supply from different sources was 62 million. Moreover, sewage disposal into rain water nallahs and drainage needed to be rectified, he added.
