Sindh Rangers on Monday arrested Pasban's general secretary, Usman Muazzam Siddiqui and his son in a pre-dawn raid on their residence in Federal B' Area. However, the reason for their arrests was not disclosed by the paramilitary forces. Disclosing this at a news conference, Pasban-e-Pakistan president Altaf Shakoor told media persons at Karachi Press Club that a heavy contingent of Rangers raided the house of Usman Moazzam in early hours of Monday and took him away along with his son, Muhammad Siddiqui. On this occasion, he also informed newsmen that the eldest son of Usman Muazzam, Saad Siddiqui, who was also whisked away on June 11, was still missing.
An FIR (No 84/2015) in this regard was registered with Samanabad police, besides a petition was filed in the Sindh High Court. Terming the raid "a conspiracy to deprive Karachi of an honest leadership", the Pasban chief said they always respected the law-enforcing agencies and supported the efforts being made by them to rid Karachi of criminals and terrorists. He said had the law- enforcing agencies contacted Pasban they would have fully co-operated with them and provided them any desired assistance; however, the manner in which the Pasban leader and his son were arrested was a matter of serious concern. He demanded of the paramilitary forces to immediately release Usman Muazzam and his both sons - Saad Siddiqui and Mohammad Siddiqui -, ensuring basic rights of all the citizens. "Usman Muazzam, is a respected citizen, who was also Pasban's candidate in the city's NA-246 by-election," he added.
