The Kisan Board Pakistan has urged the government to build new dams to save rain and flood water from being wasted and stop havoc with crops, livestock and life and property of the rural population. Board President Sadiq Khan Khakwani talking to a delegation of farmers from the flood-hit areas on Friday said, "The recent rain has played havoc with the agricultural economy. Crops standing over hundreds of thousands of acres of land in Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and Kashmir have been destroyed."
He also said India was constructing over 60 dams on rivers which were the share of Pakistan under the Indus Basic Treaty. "By stopping water to Pakistan it could turn the country into a barren land and flood Pakistan during the rainy season by releasing waters from these reservoirs."
He claimed that those who occupying pond areas attached with different head-works were also contributing to the flood agony since they diverted water to land of the poor to save their own crops. "The construction of new dams, stopping India from erecting illegal dams and getting occupied pond areas vacated from the influential could only save Pakistan from the flood havoc in the future," he suggested. He then announced that his board would soon be visiting the flood-affected areas and urged the government to build more dams and "knock the door of the International Court of Justice" to stop Indians.
