The Karachi Port handled 121,667 tonnes of cargo comprising 114,794 tonnes of import cargo and 6,873 tonnes of export cargo including 4,421 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 114,794 tonnes comprised of 35,296 tonnes of containerised cargo; 5,968 tonnes of general cargo; 22,205 tonnes of bulk cargo: 16,140 tonnes of coal; 792 tonnes of DAP; 3,400 tonnes of rock phosphate; 1,003 tonnes of SB meal and 51,325 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 6,873 tonnes comprised of 6,265 tonnes of containerised cargo and 608 tonnes of general cargo. As many as 4,421 containers comprising of 2,755 containers import and 1,666 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 812 of 20's and 798 of 40's loaded while 43 of 20's and 152 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 68 of 20's and 188 of 40's loaded containers while 412 of 20's and 405 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were six ships namely MT Lahore, Patriot, New York Star, Lakas, KSL Danyang and Xin Yi Hai-16 carrying oil tanker, coal, mogas, general cargo and steel respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were eight vessels viz. ER Helgoland, Kota Karim, Trans Trader, Al Mahboobah, Alam Madu, Chinano, Lakas and BBC Vesuvius carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical, coal and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There was one ship namely BBC Vesuvius carrying general cargo due to arrive on sailed out to sea on Monday, while six ships namely ER Helgoland, Kota Karim, Bulk Guatemala, Trans Trader, Al Mahboobah and Mino carrying containers, chemical and seeds respectively are expected to sail on Tuesday. There are four vessels viz. PAC Aries, Hanjin White, ACX Crystal and Challenge Procyon carrying containers and mogas respectively due to arrive on Tuesday.
