A police constable, Haseeb Ahmad, was killed while 3 policemen, Shoaib, Zeeshan and Mustafa were seriously wounded when four alleged terrorists riding in a Toyota Corolla car No 2031 opened fire near a hotel located in main Peoples Colony behind Technical School when the policemen tried to stop the car for checking. The police said that two squad of Rescue 15 comprising constables Zeeshan, Ghulam Mustafa, Shoaib and Habibur Rehman were on their routine patrolling when they spotted a suspected car.
The suspected vehicle was coming from rear side of Government Technical High School and heading towards Hashmat Khan Road when the rescue squad signalled its driver to stop but occupants of the car opened indiscriminate firing at the policemen.
As a result, a constable Habibur Rehman received serious bullet injuries and died on the spot. Seeing death of his colleague, other constables returned fire and killed one of the outlaws. During the encounter, three policemen also sustained multiple bullet injuries. The other alleged terrorist managed to escape from the scene leaving the vehicle behind them.
On receiving information, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ehsan Taufail, City Police Officer (CPO) Afzaal Kausar, District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Noorul Amin Mengal and other officers along with heavy police contingent rushed to the spot. The police recovered a suicide jacket, 10 hand grenades, 2 Kalashnikovs, 4 pistols, 5 magazines and other ammunitions from the suspected car.
The police have cordoned off the area to arrest the escapees. The injured constables were shifted to DHQ Hospital where they are being providing intensive care treatment to save their lives. The body of killed terrorist was shifted to the mortuary of Allied Hospital for autopsy, spokesman added.
