Opening up about the corruption and sexual harassment issues in India, Bollywood actor John Abraham has said that he believes women and animals in the country are not safe.
In an interview to Mumbai Mirror, Abraham claimed to be one of the most righteous men in the country. He added that he hardly ever gets himself involved in any wrongdoings or dirty politics.
However, he also said that India is one of the most dangerous places for women and animals. “As a proud Indian, I have the right to look at things happening in the country critically. I say this on record that India is not a safe place for women and animals,” said the 'Force' actor.
“We are one of the few countries where we disrobe a woman by just looking at her. It’s sad and getting worse. I’m scared and this makes me question the society and the country I live in," he added.
Speaking about the punishment that such men should get, Abraham said, “I don’t endorse capital punishment, but I believe we need to instill the fear of death in these sick men to ensure that they don’t commit such crimes."
Although Abraham said he does not endorse capital punishment, he still demanded death penalty for the eight drunken men who gang raped a pregnant goat in Haryana, India, which resulted in the animal's death. The animal abuse incident took place few days back, which sparked an outrage among social media users.
Abraham also spoke about corruption in India and said that the bribe culture is very common in his country. "I have been told straight that I cannot survive in Bollywood if I do not pay bribe," he said.
On the work front, Abraham will be next seen in 'Satyamev Jayate,' which will hit the screens on August 15. The film is a fight against corruption and is directed by Milap Zaveri.
