Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Zafar Mahmood visited the Tarbela Dam on Wednesday and witnessed the operating mechanism of the reservoir during the current high-water-flows season. He also reviewed the construction work on the 1,410-megawatt Tarbela fourth Extension Hydropower Project.
Dam General Manager Iqbal Masood Siddiqui, Tarbela fourth Extension Hydropower Project Director Sohail Khan and representatives of consultants accompanied him on the visit. Synohydro Vice Chairman Jiang, who had come from China to review the progress, was also present.
Reviewing construction work on Tarbela fourth Extension Hydropower Project, the Wapda Chairman emphasised the need for timely completion of the project to use the high flow season of 2017, and told the project authorities to expedite their efforts to commission the project by 2017 in accordance with the acceleration programme of the project being implemented by the power authority. He told officers concerned to closely monitor the timelines of the acceleration programme, besides ensuring the prescribed construction standards of the project.
