Former off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has asked Pakistan's young guns to get the knowledge of staying at the wicket and playing longer innings from cricket legends Javed Miandad and Inzamam-ul-Haq.
"Our young players such as Ahmed Shehzad, Haris Sohail and Umar Akmal have great potential. There is no doubt about that. But they must learn the art to build up innings," he told media.
Saqlain, who has been appearing in a sports TV channel as an analyst during the recently held Test, ODI and T20 series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka applauded country's young players, particularly batsmen saying that Pakistan's current bunch of batsmen was consisted of highly talented boys. He however; said that Pakistan batsmen still lacked the skill to play long innings.
He was of the view that Pakistan batsmen could play breathtaking and spectacular strokes all around the ground but they were in the habit of throwing away their wickets in 30s and 40s. "Our batsmen must realize that playing big innings is a skill just like playing good shots."
"Both Miandad and Inzi are our legends. What they achieved in their careers is remarkable. They are best examples for youngsters to follow. The youngsters must seek their guidance and get knowledge from them of playing longer innings," he added.
