The Karachi Port handled 193,460 tonnes of cargo comprising 163,626 tonnes of import cargo and 29,834 tonnes of export cargo including 6,100 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 163,626 tonnes comprised of 57,123 tonnes of containerised cargo; 10,886 tonnes of general cargo; 41,777 tonnes of bulk cargo: 16,055 tonnes of coal; 5,262 tonnes of DAP; 6,984 tonnes of rock phosphate; 2,088 tonnes of palm kernel; 7,885 tonnes of SB meal; 3,503 tonnes of urea and 53,840 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 29,834 tonnes comprised of 24,907 tonnes of containerised cargo; 27 tonnes of general cargo and 4,900 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
As many as 6,100 containers comprising of 3,737 containers import and 2,363 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 1,588 of 20's and 933 of 40's loaded while 31 of 20's and 126 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 642 of 20's and 381 of 40's loaded containers while 259 of 20's and 350 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were five ships namely X-Press Kailash, Southern Koala, Urania, ECE Nur Bayraktar and Grandsoar carrying containers, oil tanker, meal and steel respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were four vessels viz. SSL Bharat, Urania, Nariva and Aysenaz S carrying containers, oil tankers and SB meal respectively currently at the berths.
There were three ships namely HS Marco Polo, Shalamar and Kouju Lily carrying containers, oil tanker and urea respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while five ships namely Northern General, YM Enlightenment, Northern Power, SSL Bharat and Thor Infinity carrying containers and coal respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.
There were five vessels viz. Beijing Bridge, Cosco Kobe, Al Farahidi, Agros and Shan Dong Haisheng carrying containers, oil tanker and steel respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while three vessels viz. Pacific Dream, Admire Coral and Ru Yi Song carrying steel and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
