The City administration has claimed to have imposed a fine of Rs 4.6 million on shopkeepers for violating official price list besides sending some 85 profiteers behind the bars during July 2015. A report released by the Commissioner Karachi office on Thursday said that 459 milkmen, 846 fruit sellers, 240 vegetable vendors, 590 poultry sellers, 386 grocery sellers, 22 meat sellers and 11 flour sellers were challaned for selling their commodities on exorbitant rates and in violation of official prices.
The report further said that Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said the crackdown against profiteers would continue till sale of essential items were not ensured as per official rates.
