MULTAN: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar Saturday urged the lawyers and people to contribute to funds for dams as water issue was a grievous matter of lives.
Talking to lawyers at Multan High Court Bar Association, he said that whenever the voice for dam was raised, opposition for it started. He urged the lawyers and masses to play their role as guardians of dams too and foil conspiracies against the dams.
The CJP observed that he never stated that Kalabagh Dam would not be constructed but he always said that the dam should be built after consensus among provinces.
He said that Pakistan was achieved after numerous sacrifices and it was our duty to protect it. The main issue of the country was corruption for which there was a dire need to launch struggle, he added.
The CJP said the country could make progress only, in case the menace of corruption was eliminated. He said that many countries including Malaysia, China etc made great progress although they got independence after Pakistan.
He said the delivery of basic human rights to people was inevitable to put the country on road to progress and prosperity. The Chief Justice of Pakistan further remarked that education sector would not be allowed to become business.
He also urged the coming government to pay special focus on education sector in line with section 28A as it was basic right of every individual to have access to education. Chief Justice Saqib Nisar also remarked that meagre funds were being utilized in education and health sector.
He said that people should ask the government and should have knowledge about the utilization of funds in these two sectors. The CJP also promised to set up Income Tax Tribunal in Multan within next three months.
He said the problems of lawyers would be resolved even he has to take suo moto in this regard. On this occasion, President HCBA Khalid Ashraf Khan and lawyers representatives from across the south Punjab were also present.
Earlier, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar also spoke at District Bar Association and urged the lawyers to work with dedication for providing justice to masses. He also stressed the judicial officers to discharge their duties with honesty.
