Karachi Metropolitan Corporation's claim of making Karachi a city of lights once again is delayed due to recent monsoon weather, said KMC's spokesman on Friday. Taking to PPI, he said, on the special directives of KMC's Administrator Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, the work of streetlights' installation and repairing had been completed on many roads and roundabouts in different areas of the city.
He said work on remaining roads had been delayed due to monsoon weather but it would be accomplished soon. However, many streets in the city still lack proper street lighting, despite claims of senior officials in a meeting with KMC's Administrator Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui held before Eid-ul-Fitr at KMC Office in the metropolis to complete streetlight work in the city by August 5.
The Chief Engineer of KMC's Electrical Department had claimed that the work of repairing and installation of streetlights in the city would be accomplished by August 5, but unfortunately it had not been completed. The main roads that are still in darkness and need urgent lighting system including Shahrah-e-Kamal Atta Turk, streets in Civil Lines, Garden Area, University Road, Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan Road, Kamran Chowrangi and many other areas. The consequences could be very dangerous for the pedestrians while crossing the road or passing by these roads at night time. The Sindh government should take the action against responsible for delaying the project of making Karachi a city of lights.
