Funeral prayer of former Director General (DG) Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen Hameed Gul (R) was offered on Sunday. Important personalities including Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif also attended the funeral prayer. Hameed Gul had died last night due to brain hemorrhage in result of low blood pressure in Murree. He was shifted to CMH Murree in critical condition but could not recover.
Lt Gen Hameed Gul (R) was commissioned in Pakistan army in 1956 and retired in 1992. He also took part in the wars of 1965 and 1971. He is considered to have played a big role in Taliban's rise to power and a key player in Afghan war. He also played a role in Pakistan's politics and played a critical role in making of the Islami Jamhuri Ittehad (IJI). He remained active on political and social forums and was famous for openly expressing his political views.
