The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday issued notices to DAG, Secretary K-Electric (KE) and other respondents to file comments in a petition seeking declaration of over charged electricity bill. The petitioner, Khalid Ayaz Qureshi, named Federation of Pakistan, Secretary KE and Electric inspector as respondents. He stated that KE has issued him a bill of Rs 42,231.16 in June 2015 for the month of May for his residence located in Karachi's Clifton area.
The petitioner pleaded the court that the meter consumption for the month of May was 233 units but KE illegally charged 2,550 units and showed Rs 392,647.48 as arrears. The petitioner prayed the court that electricity is the basic necessity and no one can deprive from it. He requested the court to declare the issuance of impugned bill as it is illegal and unlawful. The petitioner prayed the court to restrain KE to disconnect the electricity of his house, subjected to the payment of bill. SHC bench took up the petition and issued notices to respondents to file their comments on August 31.
