The Karachi Port handled 198,372 tonnes of cargo comprising 171,983 tonnes of import cargo and 26,389 tonnes of export cargo including 3,348 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 171,983 tonnes comprised of 24,583 tonnes of containerised cargo; 38,816 tonnes of general cargo; 41,402 tonnes of bulk cargo: 31,178 tonnes of coal; 3,374 tonnes of DAP; 6,850 tonnes of rock phosphate and 67,182 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 26,389 tonnes comprised of 17,453 tonnes of containerised cargo; 100 tonnes of general cargo and 3,536 tonnes of cement and 5,300 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,348 containers comprising of 1,434 containers import and 1,914 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 768 of 20's and 284 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 49 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 457 of 20's and 251 40's loaded containers while 483 of 20's and 236 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were three ships namely Uni Premier, Saehan Estrella and APJ Shirin carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were seven vessels viz. Uni Premier, Ever Result, Sudair, KSL Chaoyang, Oriental Queen, Cactus K and BEKS Halil carrying containers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There are five ships namely Ever Result, Shalamar, Grand Ace-5, Oriental Queen and Cactus K carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while three ships namely Chem Master, COS Bonny and BEKS Halil carrying oil tanker, rock phosphate and general cargo respectively are expected to sail on Saturday.
There were eight vessels viz. Cosco Osaka, Hyundai Confidence, APL Cyprine, Sea Crystal, Shah Deniz, Aquila, Grand Quest and Kiran Europe carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical, coal, vehicle and steel respectively due to arrive on Friday, while five vessels viz. SSL Chennai, AS Carelia, Al Saada, MT Quetta and Universal Barcelona carrying containers, oil tankers and coal respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
