Increase in gas tariff to hit exports: APBUMA

31 Aug, 2015

Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi, Chairman, All Pakistan Bedsheets and Upholstery Manufacturers Association (APBUMA), has said that the increase in gas tariff will badly affect the country's exports besides jacking up the cost of doing business manifold.
He said that the move would oust the export-oriented industries from the global markets, where the country's products, especially value-added products, were already facing stern competition.
Roomi said that the concerned ministries always ignored to take the private sector into confidence, while taking decisions to increase gas and electricity tariffs.
He said that the textile industry was not reviving due to neglect and lack of implementation of the present and previous polices in letter and spirit.
He regretted that the country was steadily loosing markets to its competitors. "It is a matter of grave concern that billions of rupees are stuck up in the form of refund claims and FBR is denying the exporters and manufacturers their right of refunds," he added.
He further said that there was a need to take a realistic view of the matter and ensure release of the refund claims at the earliest.
