A two-day training workshop on "Zoo animals keeping, zoonoses and bio-safety measures" in collaboration with the National Association for Young Scientists, Pakistan Wildlife Foundation and the American Association for Advances in Science was concluded at Department of Wildlife and Ecology of the University of Veterinary and Animals Sciences (UVAS) Lahore here on Monday.
Wildlife and Parks Director General Khalid Ayaz Khan chaired the concluding session of the workshop and distributed certificates to the participants while Principal Officer Ravi Campus/Dean Faculty of Fisheries and Wildlife Professor Dr Muhammad Asharaf, Mr Shahrukh Butt, Chairman Wildlife and Ecology Department Dr Waseem Ahmad Khan, Dr Arshad Javed and a large number of participants were present on the occasion.
Director General Ayaz Khan lauded the efforts of organisers and offered the facilities of the Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department for UVAS students and collaborative work for the faculty members. He also offered the auditorium facilities in the Lahore Zoo for such activities in collaborative programmes in future.
The participants were also briefed about overview of wildlife of Pakistan and challenges, animal welfare, animal rights and ethics in animal research, Zoo animal diseases and their treatment, wildlife legislation, basics of bio-safety, standard microbiological practices, lab waste management, chemicals safety, bio-safety aspects of biotechnology and nanotechnology research and personal protective equipment and their applications.
