How could the head of a mega organisation such as Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) have said that certain SSGC officials arrested by Sindh Rangers were promoting terrorism by funding militants. This was what a section of media reported as remarks of Khalid Rahman, MD, SSGC, that he made before the National Assembly Standing Committee for Petroleum and Natural Resources.
It is encouraging to note that the organisation has issued a timely clarification in this regard. According to it, "MD, SSGC apprised the Committee members that enquiries are being conducted on the three senior officers of SSGC, apprehended by the law enforcement agencies and stressed that while the matter is under investigation, it would not be appropriate to dilate on it since they are innocent, till proven guilty. The MD also added that these senior officials are thorough professionals, who have a long track record of always working in the best interest of the Company. He informed the Committee that DMD / COO Shoaib Warsi has been associated with SSGC for last 37 years and has a credible track record in various capacities while Mohammad Amin Rajput, CFO joined the Company about three years ago in the capacity of its Chief Internal Auditor and only took charge of the office of CFO some three months back. Kamran Nagi, GM (P&C), the MD said, joined SSGC around three years ago, after having served Shell Pakistan for a long time."
Such seemingly irresponsible reporting of briefing by SSGC MD could unnecessarily harm the course of investigations. Hence the need for greater care and accuracy in reporting of matters that are subject to apparently unbiased and impartial inquiries by investigators.
