National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence approved unanimously a resolution on Thursday condemning Indian aggression along the Line of Control and Working Boundary. The committee chaired by Sheikh Rohail Asghar was briefed on ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb and repatriation of temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) of North Waziristan tribal region. Secretary Defence Lieutenant General Muhammad Alam Khattak (Retd) and officials of Director General Military Operations office attended the meeting.
The committee lauded Pakistan military for giving befitting response to Indian firing on the Eastern border. The committee was informed that more than sixty thousand intelligence based operations were conducted across the country and several terrorists networks were busted during the actions. Around 3,500 terrorists were killed and about 300 military personnel embraced martyrdom during operation Zarb-e-Azb.
The military stepped up operations in Shawal valley. Facilitators of terrorists are being rounded up in the second phase of operation Zarb-e-Azb. Talking to media persons, Sheikh Rohail Aghar said that the return and rehabilitation of TDPs is a challenging task for the military and civilian leadership, adding that there is no exact timeframe regarding conclusion of operation Zarb-e-Azb.
