Deputy Inspector General of Police Traffic Karachi, Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh has said that stern action against school vans run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) will be initiated on Friday after the school timing. Four traffic police teams have been constituted to ensure security of our schoolchildren who are presently commuting on dangerous CNG-run vehicles from their schools to home every day in the metropolis, he added while talking to PPI on Thursday.
Dr Amir told that in the first phase of drive, only relaxation would be given those vehicles if they have fitted with certified CNG cylinders by Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP). He said they would check vehicles on four criterion, including vehicles must be run on petrol or diesel, those vehicles must have an attendant for taking care of schoolchildren, vans should not be overloaded and these must be painted with yellow colour or with school logo.
