Defence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with simplicity in Sialkot district today. The daylong programmes started with special prayers for the unity, prosperity and solidarity of the country as well as early liberation of Indian held Kashmir in all mosques of the district. Fateha and Quran Khawani were also held at various places for Shuhada who laid their lives in defence of their motherland. One minute silence was observed at 9.29 AM to pay homage to the martyr of war followed by the national anthem.
On this occasion hoisting Hilal-e-Istiqlal flag was held under auspices of Tehsil Municipal Administration Sialkot. Station Commander Sialkot Naeem Akbar, District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Sialkot Dr Asif Tufail along with elected representative unfurled Hilal-e-Istiqlal on top of Jinnah hall. It may be mentioned that Hilal-e-Istiqlal flag was awarded to people of Sialkot on courage they demonstrated during 1965 war.
Several educational, cultural and literary bodies were holding their programmes in accordance with the significance of the day. A large number of people rushed to Chowinda to offering Fateha and Quran Khawani for Shuhada of 1965 war. People are visiting Khanawali, where the biggest tank battle was fought after world war 11 and monuments, graveyard to pay homage to the heroes of who laid their lives in defence of their motherland and defeated coward enemy.
