Members of Senate Standing Committee on Finance has criticised Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) role and stated that the board was corrupt and source of harassment to the taxpayers. The FBR role came under criticism during the committee meeting on Thursday in the absence of FBR officials after Senator Ilyas Bilour said that he was asked to pay a huge amount in a tax related case by the previous government to industries in KP.
The FBR imposed taxes on my industries, and when approached an appellant tribunal asked me to pay Rs 7.5 million or face maximum penalty, he added. He was joined by the Senator Saud Majeed who also revealed that he was declared as defaulter by the officials in FBR and was unable to convince them despite repeated attempts.
