A four-day Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) activities successfully concluded on Friday with Pakistan Navy's resolve to play an active role in the maritime security and prosperity of the region. Pakistan Navy hosted Indian Ocean Naval Symposium Working Group and Preparatory Workshop back to back from 15-18 September 15. The events were organised with 30 delegates from 17 countries participating in these events.
The first event ie IONS working Group (IWG) on "Information Sharing and Interoperability" was led by Pakistan Navy with Australia, Oman, Bangladesh, Thailand, France, United Urab Emirates and India as members. The Working Group discussed modalities on how to share information and improve interoperability amongst participating states to generate synergetic response against evolving threats. The second event ie IONS Preparatory workshop (IPW), was co-chaired by Australia and Pakistan. This was a precursor to the forthcoming conclave of chiefs aimed at preparing agenda for the next high level meeting scheduled early next year in Bangladesh.-PR
