A cash-starved Pakistan International Airline (PIA) despite having enormous number of General Managers (GM), Deputy General Managers (DGM) and Managers has started conducting fresh interviews for aforesaid positions to gratify some influential persons; it was learnt here on Monday.
According to sources, although over 260 GMs, DGMs & managers are presently serving for the airline, the management in order to oblige the family members of some influential persons has commenced interviews for fresh recruitments, putting unwarranted financial burden on the national flag carrier. Sources said that Tooba Malik, a daughter of one of the board members had already been appointed as DGM Human Resources. Moreover, sources said that the management of the PIA instead of taking measures to ease the financial pressure from the airline appeared gratuitous in dealing with helm of affairs, causing to exacerbate its financial crisis.
They said that the PIA which had recently engaged a private Public Relations (PR) firm at Rs 1.2 million per month for media relations had now rolled up sleeves for the fresh appointment of DGM Public Relations at high perk from Lahore. Besides that an official Daniyal Jilani from information ministry has also been appointed as General Manager PR on deputation. When contacted, PIA spokesman Aamir Memon confirmed the appointment of Daniyal Jilani as GM PR on deputation. Furthermore, he said that interviews for rest of the positions, which were properly advertised, were in progress.
