The Sindh High Court here Tuesday ordered the Sindh Transport Authority (STA) to submit reply in a petition accusing the Authority of unlawful crackdown on 4-stroke CNG rickshaws in Sanghar district.
Deen Muhammad, Roshan Ali and others in their petition alleged that the SHC's earlier order about the ban pertained to the three-wheeler Qingchi rickshaws which mainly operate in Karachi.
They claimed that their vehicles were 4-stroke CNG rickshaws which were allowed under the law to be used as means of public transport. The petitioners further alleged that the staff of the RTA Sanghar was extracting bribes from the rickshaw drivers and in some cases also impounding their vehicles. The Hyderabad Circuit Bench ordered the Secretary STA, Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad division, Deputy Commissioner Sanghar and other respondents to submit reply at the next date of hearing which would be scheduled in the office of the SHC's Additional Registrar.
