The Lahore High Court has allowed parliamentarians to participate in the by-elections campaign. The court, suspending a notification by the Election Commission of Pakistan which barred them from running election campaigns of the by-elections, delayed the case following a petition by a member of the Punjab Assembly of the PTI for a fortnight.
In his petition Shoaib Siddiqi said the impugned notification violated the fundamental rights and norms of democracy. The petitioner, through Hamid Khan and Ahmed Awais, also said his party chairman, Imran Khan, was a member of the National Assembly and because of the ban he could hardly take part in the by-elections.
