A pro-government tribal leader was killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast at Nullah Tochi Bridge, Bannu on Sunday while his son, who was with him at the time, was also injured in the attack. The device exploded when Malik Syed Ali, along with his son, was going to home near Nullah Tochi Bridge, injuring the both. They were rushed to Bannu District Headquarters Hospital where Malik Syed Ali succumbed to his injuries while his son has been reported to be out of danger.
Bannu, which is located at the gateway to the semi-autonomous Waziristan tribal region, is 150 kilometres south-west of Peshawar. The town has witnessed a number of attacks and was the scene of a massive jail break in April 2012 during which 384 prisoners escaped from its central prison.
