Senior Executive Director Projects of Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB), Noorul Arifeen Zuberi will retire on Monday (today) after serving the organisation for more than two decades. Zuberi, who has reached his superannuation played a key role in implementation of private power policies as a result of his un-tiring efforts, professional acumen, exceptional hard and diligent work, PPIB has been successful in adding 10000 MW of private power generation to the national grid.
His concerted efforts have resulted in commissioning of 31 IPPs and bringing an investment of more than $ 11 Billion through private sector.
In addition Zuberi is playing a lead role in handling a large portfolio of new private power projects which include hydropower, imported /local coal, gas based projects and fast track projects, which are at various stages of development and implementation.
He has successfully handled projects through International Competitive Bidding in an efficient and transparent manner establishing an un-precedent success story for PPIB.
An official told this correspondent that Mr. Zuberi is recognised as a repository of IPP knowledge in Pakistan's power sector, and with his robust and deep knowledge he has been instrumental in facilitating, encouraging and attracting prospective investors in private power generation; he has also largely contributed in the dissemination of incentives and concessions in IPP transactions.
An expert from energy sector said that although Mr Zuberi is considered a private power Guru in Pakistan and his journey with PPIB has ended, yet his services can and should continue to be used in the deficient power sector.
