07 Oct, 2015

In 2015, Germany and Pakistan could witness again "a very intensive" dialogue on a multitude of subjects like the establishment of a joint chamber of commerce. This was stated by Consul General of Germany in Karachi, Rainer Schmiedchen while addressing a ceremony held in connection with the celebration of 25 years of German Unity, here at German Consulate the other day.
The occasion was attended by government officials, cultural and artistic notables, academics, diplomats, businessmen and media persons. Sindh Law Minister Dr Sikandar Mandhro shared the podium with the consul general as dignitaries from different strata of the society graced the celebratory gathering. In his speech, Consul General Schmiedchen focused on the excellent bilateral relations between Germany and Pakistan.
"The visits of the State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office, Stephan Steinlein - accompanied by a delegation of very high-ranking representatives of German companies - in June and the visit of the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in August were certainly highlights of our bilateral relations," he said. Speaking about trade aspects, he said that he was very impressed by the vibrant business community in Karachi.
"The creation of a bilateral chamber of commerce is on top of the agenda, and the German Consulate will extend its full support to the German-Pakistani business community for the achievement of this milestone," he added.
Schmiedchen noted in his remarks that Pakistan has a rich culture and there is a lot of room for increasing cultural co-operation between Pakistan and Germany. He appreciated the participation of very active and most creative Pakistani women in different fields like academia, arts, business, IT etc. Schmiedchen thanked friends and partners of the German Consulate for their warm welcome to himself and his wife to Karachi and expressed his fervour for continuing to work closely with Pakistani counterparts on areas of mutual interest. Recitation of German National Anthem and a cake cutting ceremony were followed by a dinner buffet with German cuisine. A special supplement featuring articles on culture, politics, business etc was also distributed on the occasion.
