The Karachi Port handled 132,036 tonnes of cargo comprising 97,578 tonnes of import cargo and 34,458 tonnes of export cargo including 5,005 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 97,578 tonnes comprised of 27,476 tonnes of containerised cargo; 10,329 tonnes of general cargo; 19,773 tonnes of bulk cargo: 2,600 tonnes of coal; 5,170 tonnes of DAP; 9,003 tonnes of SB meal and 40,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo comprised of 34,458 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 5,005 containers comprising of 1,772 containers import and 3,233 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday. The breakup of imported containers shows 703 of 20's and 523 of 40's loaded while 3 of 20's and 10 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,111 of 20's and 336 of 40's loaded containers while 54 of 20's and 698 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were six ships namely Kota Kaya, Hanjin White, MT Lahore, Formosa Falcon, Chang Hang and Baoxiang carrying containers, oil tanker and steel respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were six vessels viz. Corvette, Bomar Spring, Citrus, Al Yasat-II, Mu Dang Song and Margaret SW carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were three ships namely Corvette, Bomar Spring and APL Coral carrying containers respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while four ships namely Mu Dang Song, Huayang Sunrise, Kri Sultan Iskandar Madu and Jia Sheng Shan carrying general cargo respectively expected to sail on Wednesday.
There were two vessels Shalamar and Al Mahboobah carrying oil tanker and chemical respectively due to arrive on Tuesday, while seven vessels viz. Batam Trader, Cosco Wellington, Hyundai Highness, Wan Hai-503, Bahamas, MT Quetta and Sheng Wanghai carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.
