The fourth death anniversary of Begum Nusrat Bhutto, former chairperson of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and wife of former premier Shaheed Zulfiquar Ali Bhutto, will be observed on Friday (today). The day will start with Quran Khwani at her shrine in Garhi Khuda Bux Bhutto. PPP leaders, parliamentarians and workers will offer fateha and lay floral wreaths on her grave as well as on the graves of other martyrs of Bhutto family at Ghari Khuda Bux Bhutto.
Recalling Begum Nusrat Bhutto's contribution to democracy, Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that she was the one who laid foundation of the PPP women's wing, always lived with the party workers and won the hearts and minds of people. He said that Nusrat Bhutto gave unforgettable sacrifices for the cause of democracy in the country. "She not only lost her husband Zulfiquar Ali Bhutto, who was hanged, but later her sons Shahnawaz Bhutto and Mir Mutuza Bhutto, and daughter Benzair Bhutto were murdered, making her life with full of tragedy," he said. Begum Nusrat Bhutto rose to political prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when she led protests and demonstrations against military dictatorships and she is remembered for her contribution to empowerment of women in Pakistan.
