Over 6155 personnel of Karachi Police have been assigned duties in connection with the security of main Ashura-e-Muharram procession on 10th Muharram Saturday in the metropolis. Besides 15600 personnel have also been deployed at zonal and district levels for security arrangements at majalis and mourning processions. This was said in the Karachi Police Contingency Plan for the Ashura-e-Muharram, released, here on Friday.
Moreover, Inspector General Sindh Police, Ghulam Haider Jamali is informed in a police report that extra-ordinary measures are taken for the security of over 342 Imambargahs, 452 venues of majalis and on the routes of more than 236 processions. Additional IG Karachi Mushtaq Meher also briefed the Sindh Police Chief about security arrangements during a visit to the route of main Ashura procession in Karachi.
He said that as many as 275 security cameras are installed at 70 different vital locations for vibrant and uninterrupted monitoring of the main Ashura procession in the city. Three security circles have been formed for the main Ashura procession while strict vigilance of the sealed shops, godowns, vacant apartments and markets is also being performed.
Close co-ordination will also be ensured between the police personnel who will be deployed at the head and tail of the main Ashura procession so as to timely follow the instructions of the Central Command and Control Centre. The IGP Sindh has also directed to perform patrolling by the special police commandos in the sensitive areas and put the police teams on high alert in the nearby areas of the route of main procession. He has further directed to continue patrolling and snap checking in the sensitive areas as to ensure protection of life and property of the people.
