Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting here Friday which considered various proposals for promotion of quality education in schools and provision of modern training to the teachers. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister directed that efforts should be made on emergent basis for promoting quality education and teachers' training.
He said that children of the common people have as much right over quality education as those of the elite and Punjab government will ensure this right. He said that all necessary resources will be provided for this purpose. The Chief Minister directed that effective measures should be taken for the promotion of quality education. He directed setting up of a committee headed by Provincial Minister for Education and Chief Secretary and said that the committee should submit final recommendations within seven days with regard to promotion of quality education. He said that training of teachers on modern lines is of vital importance for promotion of quality education and a comprehensive training programme for teachers should be evolved for harmonising them with the modern needs.
He said that arrangements should also be made at tehsil level for providing quality training to teachers and capacity-building of training institutions for teachers is the need of the hour. He said that the target of promotion of quality education can be achieved only through providing modern training to teachers.
Shahbaz Sharif directed that final recommendations should be submitted within 14 days for quality training of teachers. Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed, Advisor Dr Ajaz Nabi, Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning & Development, Vice Chairman Punjab Educational Endowment Fund Dr Amjad Saqib, concerned secretaries and senior authorities were present on the occasion.
