The Punjab Disaster Management Authority has sought a report from all districts about any losses of life and property following a deadly earthquake that hit north-eastern Afghanistan and Pakistan. An authority official said on Monday that the government had announced up to Rs 500,000 for each dead person and Rs 100,000 for the injured one. He also said each district administration would have to pay the heirs in 24 hours through government representatives.
"The authority has set up a helpline 1129 to help the injured and the dead, whereas immediate assistance of Rescue-1122 can also be sought. All government departments will remain on red alert during the next 24 hours. The emergency has been enforced in all hospitals and doctors and medical staff have been told to cancel their leaves," the official added.
