The Met Office has asked farmers to start timely cultivation vegetables of winter season for a greater yield. It said that the existing soil moisture would be helpful for the vegetable crops at the start of cold weather. Cotton growers should prepare their fields for the next Rabi season crops and complete sowing in time. Similarly, farmers of rain-dependent areas should begin cultivating Rabi season crops till November 15.
Farmers of irrigated areas in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should complete sowing of wheat crop in November. After passage of stipulated period, the office said that verities of seeds should be cultivated in December. "After this time yield of wheat crop decreases gradually," it said.
Farmers irrigating crops through from tube-wells and irrigated areas in upper parts of the country should schedule irrigation in line with the expected weather. "Farmers are advised to take in time precautionary measures to protect their crops, livestock and other property from any expected rain," it said. Rainfall/ gusty winds after irrigation usually cause water logging in standing crops like maize, sugarcane and cotton, it said, adding that "farmers should be very careful in this regard". Normal wind pattern may prevail in most of the agricultural plains with night temperatures dropping slightly by 1-2 degrees Celsius in the most of agriculture plains of the country through October 31.
