As many as 25 leaders of the PML-N party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-i-Azam, including two former members of the Punjab Assembly, have joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. On Tuesday, former governing party member of the Punjab Assembly Khalid Pervez Virk and his counterpart, Irfan Bashir Gujjar, from the League-Quaid-e-Azam, met Punjab Tehreek-e-Insaf organiser Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar at the chairman secretariat.
They were with Riaz Virk, Riasat Gujjar and Imtiaz Ashraf Manj. Insaf leader Bilal Virk was present too. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, organiser Sarwar said the local government system in the Punjab was never inclined to favour the public but bent on strengthening the hands of the current rulers. "This system is mere a show-piece," he added.
He claimed, "The governing party is contesting the elections with the full support of the Punjab police and is using the public funds. The Insaf has scheduled a meeting with the Election Commission of Pakistan to let them know the wrongdoings of the government and will provide them with proof of using public resources.
