Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that role of media has become more important in the present circumstances. He said that media has played a positive role for the strengthening of democracy and promotion of democratic values in the country. He said that overseas Pakistanis are ambassadors of the country and Punjab government has set up Overseas Pakistanis Commission for the solution of their problems.
He was talking to a delegation of Pakistan Journalist Association Britain (PJA). The members of the delegation expressed sorrow and grief over the loss of precious human lives in earthquake in Pakistan. The Chief Minister said that earthquake affectees will not be left alone in the moment of distress. He said that Punjab government is standing by the calamity-hit people of Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa in the hour of need. He said that work has been started on China Pakistan Economic Corridor Projects. He said that CPEC is an invaluable gift for Pakistan and China has proved to a true friend of Pakistan by helping it in the current situation.
Shahbaz said that work has been started on gas-based power projects of 3600 megawatts in Punjab and these projects are being set up at half the rate compared to similar projects in the past. He said that a huge amount of Rs 112 billion has been saved in these projects.
He said that solid measures taken for the strengthening of economy under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif are yielding encouraging results. He said that transparency and a high standard are the hallmark of this government. The delegation was led by acting President Pakistan Journalist Association Britain Tahir Chaudhry whereas General Secretary PJA Wajahat Ali Khan, Joint Secretary Ghulam Hussain Awan, Bureau Chief Urdu Times UK Fatima Saif and President Muslim Charities Forum Syed Lakht Husnain were included in the delegation. Secretary Information, Press Secretary to Chief Minister, DGPR, Commissioner Overseas Pakistanis Commission, Punjab and senior journalist & anchorperson Sohail Waraich were also present on the occasion.
