NA-154 case: Supreme Court summons Siddique Baloch

28 Oct, 2015

The Supreme Court on Tuesday summoned Siddique Khan Baloch, the rival candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Jehangir Khan Tareen from NA-154 (Lodhran-1), to appear before the court in person on Wednesday. Baloch had challenged the verdict of an election tribunal, which de-seated him from NA-154, Lodhran-I, on August 26 in response to a complaint filed by Jahangir Khan Tareen.
Resuming the hearing, a three-judge bench led by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar observed that one must not be labeled with stigma as it continues from generation to generation. Concluding his arguments in the matter, Shahzad Shaukat, the counsel for Baloch, urged the court to summon all the record relating to his client's education degrees from Boards of Intermediate & Secondary Education, Karachi and Hyderabad and Balochistan University.
He further pleaded that additional evidence may be recorded in the case, adding that Tareen has to produce positive evidence rather than stigmatising his client of cheating the people. Advancing his arguments, Makhdoom Ali Khan, the counsel for Tareen, said that a single information will clear things if the court issues directives to BISE Hyderabad to check how many 43 years old candidates appeared in the Higher Secondary School Certificate examination along with Baloch. Later, issuing directives to Baloch to appear in person before the court, the bench adjourned hearing till Wednesday.
