Punjab University Vice Chancellor Professor Doctor Mujahid Kamran has said "a powerful army with nukes is a guarantee for the country's survival and no enemy is able to meet our eyes with evil intentions". His comment came on Wednesday in a pointed address in an orientation ceremony of newly admitted students at the university's Oriental College which was organised at the Sherani Hall at the Old Campus.
Part of his speech also focused on reading habits. "We could not amend our incorrect comprehension of Islam without enhancing reading habits," Dr Kamran said. He said the Oriental College was an asset for the country, playing a key role in promoting languages. "The Muslims of Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and other countries are being exploited because of their distance from knowledge," he added.
Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning Dr Ismatullah Zahid said scientific knowledge created machines but language and literature produced the best human beings and thanked Dr Kamran for tackling negative politics on the campus. Dr Kamran then opened the college cafeteria. Those also present were Professor Dr Khawaja Muhammad Zakria, Professor Dr Zahur Ahmad Azhar, Professor Dr Mazhar Moeein and heads of departments.
