Hamdard College of Medicine and Dentistry (HCM&D) has organised its annual student research seminar to promote research culture among the students and the faculty members, on October 28, 2015 at Main Campus, Hamdard University, Karachi. Fourth year students of the college presented their research works on different topics.
According to the judges decision the first prize went to the presentation titled "A study of presence of Bacterial Pathogens in poultry chicken in different areas of Karachi", presented by a group of students, led by Muhammad Osama, the second prize went to the presentation titled "Musculo Skeletal Disorders among medical students of Hamdard University by another group, led by Tayaba Shahid Khan and the third prize went to the research on "Assessment of Health Status and Occupational Safety Measures among coal mine workers in Shahrug, Balochistan by a student group, led by Iqra Shaukat. Special prize was given to the research titled: "Disorders of Upper Extremities associated with prolonged use of Smart phones by a group, led by Hafsa Qureshi.
A panel of judges, comprised Dr Fatema Jawad, Chief editor, JPMA journal; Professor Dr Sina Aziz, Chief editor, Annals journal, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Karachi Medical and Dental College; Professor Dr Seema Mumtaz, Chairperson, Community Health Sciences, United Medical College; Professor Dr Imran Sheikh, Chairperson, Department Community Health Sciences, Bahria Medical and Dental College.
Sadia Rashid, Chief Guest and Chancellor, Hamdard University gave away the prizes to the winners and University's shields to the judges and the supervisors of the research groups on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr Hakim Abdul Hannan, Vice Chancellor, Hamdard University said that the founder of the university, Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said always emphasised on research work and believed that Hamdard University should also do in-depth researches in order to create new knowledge which is the only purpose of a great university. Commending the academic activities by the Community Health Sciences Department and the researches, done by the students of HCM&D, he said, universities were always recognised by their research work and this year newer unique topic of researches were presented by the students.
Earlier Professor Dr Muhammad Javed, Dean, Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences in his welcome address commended the efforts, being made by the Department of Community Health Sciences. Highlighting the importance of research, he said that we should have to research why the Polio menace has not been finished in Pakistan while whole world had curb this danger, because the other countries had done a lot of research on the Virus of Polio and succeeded to control this menace.-PR
