Controversial former England skipper Kevin Pietersen struck 22 runs in his South African Twenty20 Challenge debut for Dolphins at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Sunday. The 35-year-old South Africa-born right-handed batsman looked comfortable at the crease in the opening round game until his drive from outside off stump was caught at deep mid-wicket.
Batting at No 3, Pietersen faced 21 balls against hosts Titans and his knock included two fours.
He will play five matches for the Durban-based Dolphins - one against each franchise in the six-team Challenge - before flying to Australia for the Big Bash League T20 competition.
"It was incredibly hot out there," said Pietersen of the 37 degrees celsius (99 fahrenheit) temperature at the Test venue halfway between Johannesburg and Pretoria.
