UAE to build 'medical city' in Pakistan

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) based MBF Group has announced to build a medical city in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad.

MBF Group, founded and owned by Shaikh Mohammad Bin Faisal Al Qasimi, has announced an agreement with Ibchez Housing and Nixon to establish an integrated medical city within the 100,000-square metre Gulberg Greens in Islamabad, reported UAE news agency WAM.

As per the report, the project will include a 400-bed university hospital and will also feature the Pakistan’s first medical mall, therapeutic and recreational areas, a regional cardiology centre, and an orthopaedic centre, informed Al Qassimi.

The medical city will also feature a nursing college and is expected to serve some 1 million patients and clients on a monthly basis. Al Qassimi stressed on the need for such advanced hospitals to serve Pakistan’s growing population.

Al Qassimi pointed out that the investment provided for the medical city has reached US$970 million, meanwhile the land for the project has been purchased. He added that the group will manage the city’s 1,000 strong medical, technical and administrative staff, who will all be Pakistanis.
