Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) in the Punjab has claimed that the party can never be eliminated from the political scene in contrast to its critics recklessly predicting it before the recent Local Bodies elections in the Punjab and Sindh.
Party President Manzoor Wattoo said on Monday, "The elections results have clearly indicated the trend that the party is firmly on a trajectory of staging comeback in the Punjab, notwithstanding the fact that numerous party workers supported the independent candidates. They did so in accordance with a permission given by the party leadership to make seat adjustments considering the dynamics of the local politics."
He said numerous independent candidates succeeded in the Punjab because of the degree of support of the party and also because other major parties never figured out such seat arrangements to their office-bearers and workers. He also said his party would continue to remain the only viable option for the liberal and progressive segments of society that were in overwhelming majority in the country and wanted to carry on the nation building process on the basis of those ideals. "Political opponents were even forecasting a dooms-day scenario for the party in Sindh after the Local Bodies' elections, but the elections had confirmed that the party's popularity has surged in the province, not to speak of its decline. The party's stronghold has been further fortified in its favour," he added. He then congratulated the candidates who won the elections.
